Since 1973, Children’s Council has helped children grow, families work, and San Francisco prosper. We strive to make affordable, high-quality child care a reality for all working families. Our agency offers a variety of services for parents, children, providers, and the community
Services for Parents and Children
Our programs and services for San Francisco families include:
- Free referrals for families seeking child care and other family resources
- Assistance with child care payments for eligible families
- Support for families of children with special needs
- Child care assistance for families affected by homelessness and domestic violence
- Lending Library featuring books and educational toys and games
Support for Child Care Providers
Our programs and services for San Francisco child care providers include:
- Free and low-cost professional development workshops
- Assistance with obtaining child care licensure
- Provider reimbursement for nutritious foods served to the children in their care
- Lending Library featuring books and educational toys and games
- Support for providers working with children with special needs
- Wage augmentations and funding for facilities
Public Awareness and Education
We raise awareness of child care and other family issues by:
- Educating the community about the importance of high-quality and accessible child care
- Participating in and leading child care policy and planning efforts
- Producing publications that provide information on policies and issues affecting families
- Supporting Parent Voices, a parent-led organization that works to incorporate the parent/guardian perspective into policy development
