Health and Nutrition

The Health and Nutrition team at Children’s Council partners with child care providers, families, and community-based organizations to raise awareness of nutritious foods, exercise, and healthy lifestyle choices.

Child Care Food Program

Children’s Council is a sponsor agency of the Child Care Food Program, a federally funded nutrition initiative that reimburses providers for feeding nutritious meals to the children in their care.

The Child Care Food Program offers providers access to healthy recipes and nutritious food.  The program helps providers to keep their food costs down while ensuring the healthy development of the children in their programs.

Prior to enrolling in the program, providers must enroll in an orientation.  Upcoming orientation dates include:

  • September 27, 2010, 6:30-8:30 p.m., click here to register
  • October 6, 2010, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
  • November 3, 2010, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
  • December 1, 2010, 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Summer Food Pantry

Each summer, Children’s Council and the San Francisco Food Bank join together to hold a weekly food pantry.  Anyone needing assistance with food may select food from the pantry once a week, free of charge.  For more information, contact Venus Savea at 415.276.2900.

Nutrition Night

The annual Nutrition Night event gives San Francisco children, parents, and child care providers an opportunity to sample healthy foods and learn about nutrition, exercise, and wellness.  Nutrition Night takes place every autumn at Sanchez Elementary School.  For more information, contact Julisa Nunez at 415.276.2900.
